appdir.pngWith the amount of applications being released for the iPhone accelerating, it has become difficult to keep track of what is available. To help you find your way through the world iPhone software, we are introducing a new iPhone Application Directory.

Inside you will find the most up-to-date list of iPhone applications available. In addition, the application directory will always be one click away from the sidebar on any iPhonador page.

Enjoy!

pxl.pngAn online coder going by the name ‘Sparks’ is readying a new application called PXL for release.  PXL is a Mac OSX application that can easily install custom applications on the iPhone.  In addition, it automatically handles all the work of ‘jailbreaking’ so that normal users don’t need to know anything about using Terminal or SSH to install custom iPhone software.

PXL consists of two pieces.  First, the PXL desktop application talks to the phone and keeps track of available software.  Second, PXL installs a small server application on the iPhone to manage talking back to the desktop and handle the installation and removal of software.

When completed, PXL has the potential to bring homebrew iPhone applications into the mainstream.  By removing the technical barriers, anyone will be able to install software with a few clicks.

Sparks is aiming to release the first version of PXL on Sunday.  Check back for updates.

ifuntasticv25.pngiFuntastic 2.5 is out. It allows iPhone users to easily add ringtones, change graphics, and reorder icons on the iPhone. Version 2.5 includes a new iPhone file browser so you can upload and download files from the iPhone without using command line applications. There are also other enhancements:

Check out the ‘Browser’ page:
You can edit and replace any graphic on the phone!
You can replace any system sound!
You can color your SMS balloons!

It still needs some polishing and simplification, but if you want to get a glimpse of the possibilities, install ‘iFuntasy 01′ and see if you can find all the subtle (and not so subtle) changes to your phone!

filemark.pngFileMark is a free OSX application that will convert any file into code that can be stored as a bookmark. Once you sync your bookmarks to the iPhone, the file will be available for viewing any time, even when the phone is in airplane mode.

Filemarks let you store high res images, text files, and PDFs on an iPhone! There aren’t any good ways to do this with the built in Apple tools - you can use iPhoto to copy images, but they’ll be scaled down and become unreadable. If you want to read a pdf on your phone, you have to either email it to yourself or browse to it in Safari. Filemarks store your file’s data inside a bookmark. When you want to view your file, you open the bookmark in Safari on the iPhone and you can view it, whether your phone is online or offline.
